alistairappleton‘Anxiety and the Mind – how Mindfulness can transform our worries’

We all get anxious. It’s part of our DNA – but there are levels at which normal fear responses become chronic and we live a life that is seamed through with constant worrying, planning, catastrophising that is neither appropriate nor healthy.

This weekend workshop will explore this ubiquitous human experience. Anxiety can be a horrible and debilitating presence in our lives – one we often avoid by turning to short-term solutions like alcohol, drugs, workaholism, unsuitable relationships, addictions. Less dramatic experiences of anxiety can also be a less intense but constant companion, so widespread in our lives that we barely notice the impact it has on our experience: deadening our joy, smothering adventurousness, making us wary and suspicious of others.

Alistair combines the Buddhist practice of Mindfulness with a therapeutic awareness of the human underpinnings of anxiety, in a group workshop weekend that shines a light on the mechanisms of chronic or ambient anxiety and also offers some tools to work with in the form of meditation and breathwork.
