We are delighted and privileged to announce that the Venerable Fifth Minyak Rinpoche, Tulku Ogyen Nyima, will travel to Dublin for his first visit to Ireland this October. During the visit Rinpoche will give teachings and empowerments, on this ocassion he will confer the empowerments of 1000 Armed Chenrezi and Amitabha. This is so that anyone who has an interest in participating in the puja practices in the Centre may do so, and also eventually participate in the Annual Nyung Ney practice in Samye Ling Monastery.

Events will begin on Saturday 22nd with teachings on Amitabha, The Buddha of Boundless Light (see more information below) starting at 10am sharp. The Amitabha Empowerment will take place in the afternoon beginning at 2pm sharp.

Sunday 23rd is dedicated to Chenrezi, The Buddha of Loving Kindness and Compassion (see below for more information) with the teaching starting at 10am sharp. The Chenrezi Empowerment will take place in the afternoon beginning 2pm sharp.

****These events are open to everyone to attend, however to fully receive the Empowerment and do the practices it is necessary to have taken Refuge. If you have not taken Refuge you can still attend and receive the Blessing. We ask that everyone attending arrive in plenty of time in order to be in place in the Shrine Room ahead of Rinpoche’s arrival for each session as it will not be possible to enter once the teaching or ceremony has commenced.***

There is no suggested donation for this event, however there are considerable expenses involved in bringing teachers such as Rinpoche to the Centre, and also providing a translator, so we welcome any donations towards the cost of hosting. It is also traditional to make an offering to Rinpoche during each Empowerment – in the Buddhist tradition one practices generosity, or Dana, by making monetary offerings for the teachings. This generosity is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is an offering given freely from the heart in appreciation of the Dharma. We will have katas (offering scarves) and envelopes available in the Centre during the weekend. Please do not let financial constraints be an obstacle to attendance, any amount, no matter how small, is an offering from the heart.

You can let us know if you are attending by emailing info@buddhism.ie or calling 01 4537427, so we will have an idea of numbers!

Please see the following information on The Fifth Minyak Rinpoche, Tulku Ogyen Nyima:

Tulku OgyenVen Fifth Minyak Rinpoche, Tulku Ogyen Nyima, was born in 1976. He was a very kind, honest and pleasant child and in 1984  H.E. Shukgang Matrul Rinpoche and H.E. Sera Yangtrul Rinpoche recognised and named him The Fifth Minyak Rinpoche. That same year Rinpoche was taken by his parents to see His Holiness Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok in Serta Monastery. His Holiness was very pleased with him and asked him to continue studying in Lharung (Serta), however he came back to Minyak Monastery to learn reading and writing under the guidance of Lama Dorje.

In 1989 at the age of fourteen, Rinpoche took on all the responsibilities for the monastery, including leading the major ritual ceremonies and the reading of texts, as well as giving empowerments and instructions

In 1992 Rinpoche received Tantric teachings from H. H. Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok at the Five Sciences of Buddhism University (in Serta).  In 1996 he entered the Shedra at Palyul and Namdroling Monastery to study and master Buddhist philosophy, which he completed in 2006 having received many high awards.

Rinpoche then started to teach in the Namdroling Junior School, the Tsogyal Nunnery Institute and the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute.

For four years he was also the main editor of many books in the Ngagyur Rigzod Editorial Committee.

In 2008 he received special Master, Doctorate and Professor degrees from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, after which His Holiness requested him to look after Minyak Monastery in Tibet, and also sent him to Taiwan to teach.

Rinpoche has taught in several other countries, including Australia,  Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, Belgium and the UK.

He married Akong Tulku Rinpoche’s niece, Drolkar Lhamo, in 2010 and they now have two children. He is currently one of the teachers in the Samye Ling mandala and as a master of both the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions, he is available to bestow initiations and give teachings at Samye Ling and its branches and associated centres.

Amitabha is the Buddha of Boundless Light and is part of the Lotus Family (one of the Five Dhyani Buddha Families). Many Eons ago Amitabha  generated Bodhicitta and took fifty-one vows to lead all sentient beings to the pure realm Dewachen, the Land of Great Bliss (Sukhavati). On a deeper level Amitabha represents the nature of our mind which is limitless and luminous and also represents the transformation of one of the five mind poisons, Desire.

Amitabha is practised during one’s lifetime as a preparation for death. It can also be done on behalf of someone who has passed away to help them take rebirth in Dewachen.resizedimage170245-chenrezik-reduced

Chenrezi

Chenrezi is the embodiment of the Loving kindness and Compassion of all the Buddhas of the past, present and future. Chenrezig has taken a vow to free all sentient beings from cyclic existence before attaining completely perfect enlightenment and is therefore seen as the epitome of selflessness: caring for others over and above oneself. The form practiced on a weekly basis in the Centre is Four Armed Chenrezi, but we have also requested the empowerment for 1000 Armed Chenrezi, to allow those who wish to participate in the Nyung Ney retreat. This empowerment will cover all forms.
