What is Meditation?

Meditation is a unique way to bring your mind to the present moment and to allow us to experience true peace (easier said than done!) and an insight and realization of what the mind really is.

In Kagyu Samye Dzong Dublin, we practice the traditional Buddhist method of meditation brought to us through our lineage and offer instruction to whoever would like to learn how to meditate. This type of meditation is known as Shinay, or Shamatha/Calm Abiding, and was taught by the Lord Buddha over 2,500 years ago.

Beginners meditation instruction is offered on Saturday mornings at 10.30am and on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm. These classes are ‘Drop-in’ – no need to book. The Saturday morning class is also followed by a short session of meditation from 12pm – 12.30pm – suitable for those who are beginning their meditation journey. ***We recommend you check the Regular Programme and Events page from time to time in case of changes due to visiting teachers/special events***

In these sessions you will be taught the correct posture – this is vital to ensure you don’t develop bad habits from the beginning and get the most benefit from the session. Also how to work with distraction – a constant problem in these busy times.

It is also very important to receive instruction from an experienced and authorised instructor, in order to meditate in a way that is genuinely beneficial.

These sessions are open to all who wish to learn how to meditate – you do not need to be Buddhist to benefit.

See our Regular Programme page for days and times of meditation sessions.
